Sometimes we need more than supervision or consultation. I believe counseling for counselors is key to our own personal and professional development. We are human first and foremost, and many of us are highly sensitive and/or empathic. We deal with our own share of the typical ups and downs everyone faces, but they may affect us more.
Many of us became counselors out of our own experiences and desires to help others. As we help others, we may find we take on more and more of our clients’ pain and suffer from compassion fatigue. We may also find ourselves dealing with life changes or difficulties that challenge our ability to cope (it can happen to us too!). Maybe our own emotional wounds are being triggered and sorely need attention. We know what to do, but still, need someone to hold the space for us too.
We all know, as the tool of our trade, we must routinely take good care of ourselves so we may continue to care for our clients but where can counselors go for good counseling? If you believe you would greatly benefit from having a safe, caring place to be heard by someone who deeply understands the unique needs of counselors, I’m available for distance counseling sessions and in-person intensives.
