How does hypnosis work?
Hypnosis is a natural state of altered consciousness that occurs normally in everybody just before they enter into the sleep state.
In therapeutic hypnosis, we prolong this brief interlude so that we can work within its bounds and use it for healing for you.
The human mind is easily influenced and bombarded constantly with suggestive stimuli from the outside and suggestive thoughts and ideas from the inside. A lot of suffering is the consequence of negative thoughts and impulses invading your mind from subconscious recesses.
Unfortunately, past experiences, feelings of guilt, impulses, and desires are constantly pushing themselves into your awareness creating bad habits and an unhealthy frame of mind.
In hypnosis, we attempt to replace these negative thoughts with positive ones. It takes time to unlearn old habits and patterns. But change is much quicker when addressing issues at their source: the subconscious mind. As a result, there is constant restructuring is going on underneath even between sessions.
What does it feel like to be hypnotized?
Unlike what’s been popularized by magicians, you’re not asleep during hypnosis. Conversely, it’s a state of super-consciousness.
In hypnosis, you will find that your mind is active; that you can converse with your therapist and you may even hear sounds in the room, but these will not disturb or distract you since you’ll be highly focused on the experience itself.
You can resist a suggestion if you so desire and you will be able to remember everything that happened afterward. You are NEVER unconscious or asleep. Your subconscious mind is active, your thoughts are under your control, you perceive all stimuli, and are in complete communication with the therapist
